A Productive Horse Day

As the weather warms up I've been more productive with my critters. I've been working with Reno pretty constantly. She takes the saddle well and lounges well. My goal before summer hits it to have Reno accepting a small sawbuck pack saddle with little packs and ponying behind another horse. I'm so excited for the day that I can ride her!

WindDancer is also doing well. I've been making him climb stumps and working with some trail obstacles. Our biggest challenge is side passing to the right. (Silly my horse can also side pass one direction.) After an hour with the fence and an aid we are moving fairly well in both directions.  It doesn't look pretty yet but we are getting there.

Is this right? WindDancer asks...

Riding Above Cove

Yesterday I headed up McNeal above Cove with Shannon and Dawn for a fun afternoon ride. I love riding and can't wait for the warmer weather to come! (Supposidly next week temperatures are set to climb.)

We started out with overcast clouds then got into a little snow squal. It wasn't bad and made for some fun riding.

I eventually found a, rather large, stump and had to convince WindDancer to climb up it. He has such much try and will do whatever I ask of him. I love my horse so much. I think he is fantastic.

Reno-Ruby BLM Mustang
Today is Reno-Ruby's first full day at the ranch. She is settling in well but it has been raining constantly since last night! Not only is it raining but it's also a tad chilly out with a slight breeze. The forecast calls for rain all this week but I won't let me stop me from spending lots of time with her.

Reno is such a sweet little filly and the Saddle Tramps 4-H club have done an amazing job with her! I'm so excited for the weather to warm up so I can continue to work with her. I'm thinking I should set up a little trail course for her and also start ponying her behind WindDancer on little rides.

Reno & I inside the barn out of the rain!

Reno enjoying the shelter from the rain.
I just love this little filly and I'm so lucky that I am able to give her a good home. For everyone involved with the Saddle Tramps check back here for updates on Reno-Ruby!

Idaho Horse Expo and Reno-Ruby

I just returned from the Idaho Horse Expo. It was a long three days of passing out sacks and brochures, but it was a good expo for the lodge to go to. We got some girls signed up for horse camp (which is great) and we got a lot of interest from people.

Cornucopia Lodge Booth
But the most exciting part of the whole trip was finding Ruby-Red! Who is this I speak of? The cutest little red roan BLM mustang EVER. Long story short, the BLM gives different Idaho 4-H clubs yearling mustangs. The 4-H clubs then train the horses for 9 weeks (I believe) and they are then auctioned off at the Idaho Horse Expo. The Cornucopia Lodge booth was next to the BLM booth and I couldn't resist bidding on Ruby-Reno. She is the cutest nicest little mustang out there and she's going to make one heck of a horse!
