Mule Team Driving

Today was an absolutely beautiful in Richland and I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Darice and drive her beautiful mule team!  I'm really glad that I found someone who is willing to teach me about driving a team and I have to say that she is a wonderful teacher.  I hope to have many more mule driving lessons and I hope that I will soon by able to purchase my own team. I am so excited that I drove a team today and that it all went smoothly! Thanks Darice for the great day!

Kiwi the Cutie

Today I went on a little trip to buy groceries in Baker City. This meant I had a little time before and after to play with my little baby horse Kiwi. She's growing like a weed and I think she'll be a tall girl one day!

Here are some photos of my Kiwi mini-training season today. (Please excuse the messy pen... I try to keep it clean but green poop plus white snow equals a very stained looking pen.)

Big Head and Long Legs!

More?! More grain!

This is not a duck face.
This is the face of a concerned Katlin.
First time laying on her back.
She didn't even care.
Hopefully the first of many "between the ear photos."
I can't wait until she gets big enough to ride!
(It'll be another year though...)

I could do this all day.
She is so photogenic!

Scout Can't Catch

Simply put... Scout can't catch. But here's his best effort. In slow mo. (We eventually "hand" it to him in the end.)

The clanging noise you hear is his dog tags...

Feb. 21st Snow Photos

Just some photos to show you all the amount of snow we have today (on February 21st).  Yesterday it snowed about 20 inches, but today we have blue skies and powder.

Ekk! Where did the backhoe disappear to?

Road Signs

Just to give you an idea of our current snow level... Only a few more feet till the road signs are completely gone.

Panhandle Poker Run

It was a beautiful day in the Wallowa's for the Panhandle Snowmobile Club's Poker Run. I went riding with two of our lodge guests and it was really fun! The weather was nice for almost the entire ride and I am glad that I am (slowly) becoming a better rider.  However my poker skills could use some improvement...

Back in Oregon

Oregon o' Oregon. I drove to Ontario on Wednesday and spent the night there. Then continued the drive to Halfway Thursday. Once I got to the bottom of the hill it was straight to work. We are currently booked full! It's a whole lot of work because the snow is uncooperative; it's wet and heavy. In turn, wet heavy snow is very difficult to shovel.  But our guests are having fun and that's all that matters!

If you really want to know, this is how our days have gone: Get up early. Cook breakfast. Have breakfast ready for a full house by 8 o'clock. Make a gazillion pots of coffee. Set the table. Serve guests. Make the sack lunches. Do the dishes (about two hours by hand...). Put the dishes away. Shovel out vents on the cabins. Change the towels. Shovel out windows. Do the laundry. (Don't get the snowmobile stuck.) Set the table. Make dinner. Bake dessert. Make a fire. Have dinner done on time. Serve dinner: Salad and bread. Main course. Dessert. Put the food away. Do the dishes (again). Put the dishes away. Debate about showering and then finally go to bed. Oh and clean the kitchen fits in there somewhere...

Needless to say I'm tired!

Yes... That's the window to a cabin! I was trying to dig DOWN to it.

Just keep digging...

Riding in California

Thanks to Jane, who is fantastic, I got the chance to go riding while in California. It was such a perfect day for a ride and the weather looked nothing like it does in Eastern Oregon! The sun was shining and I was very ready to hop in the saddle.

I got to ride Vanna, who is a horse with a very impressive history.

She was absolutely fantastic. The ride was fantastic. The scenery was fantastic. The whole day was fabulous. I wish I could do it over and over again.  But alas I must return to the snowy land of Cornucopia and start shoveling out cabins and vents.

Sunny California

Cookie? (She got a lot of treats!)

Not before some delicious Chinese food though...

Don't worry... we didn't actually eat all of that food.

Horse Expo Pomona

What a whirlwind the last few days have been! In cased you missed the memo, or I just didn't tell you, I've been in southern California at Horse Expo Pomona promoting Cornucopia Lodge and our 2014 women's rides.

The booth, while not easy to set up or take down, looked fabulous and I had the wonderful company of Jane for the last few days. She is amazing at what she does - it's indescribable magic!  Our booth was across from Sharon and Walter (who own and sell Porta-Grazer. Check it out! They have a great product).  We had lots of fun chatting to them over the course of the expo.  Our booth was also next to Horse Illustrated and Rosies Workwear for Women.

We gave out a lot of brochures and talked to a good number of people about the lodge and trail riding in northeast Oregon. But, personally, one of the highlights for me was the StreetKitchen food truck. Their jerk chicken quesadilla was to die for amazing! Even Jane, who doesn't like chicken, thought it was good!

I got the chance to wander around some and exploring briefly. There were a lot of great vendors, clinicians, and events going on the expo.

California Bound

Yesterday I drove for many many hours from Cornucopia to Auburn, California (near Sacramento for those that need a geological reference point). Tomorrow I'll continue my "trek" until I reach Pomona (near LA) and start setting up a booth for the Pomona Horse Expo.  I'm really excited to have a booth there and I hope that we get a lot of business from this show.

But for right now I'm at Jane's house enjoying the warm weather. Well, Californians might not think this is warm, but it's sure warmer that Cornucopia!

Here's some photos of the lovely critters here! I'll be sure to take more eventually but I had to come in and charge my camera battery. Whoops. Doesn't help when your camera dies.

What a cutie!

Those ears!

Green? In February? I'm not in Eastern Oregon anymore.

Delicious tasting water.

So cute!
I must be opposed with ears today... or have the wrong camera lens on.

More green!

Such a happy horse!
