The Last Week

This was my last week on undergraduate classes.  Weird.  And by this time next week I will be a graduate of Utah State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Recreation Resource Management.  But that's not what I want to focus on.

Right now I want to talk about my last week. As classes finished it was a bitter sweet feeling.  I have had a lot of fun however.  My last Zumba class was far too much.  We danced to our favorite songs and sweated out all our worries!

My Zumba Class
The thursday night College of Natural Resources closing social provided a free dinner. We ate delicious sandwiches, chips, and chocolate mousse cake.  I'm glad that I got to see friends and take a break and chat for a while.

Friday I went to the Quinney end of the year work party.  We had a potluck which involved spaghetti, chicken enchiladas, bread, salad, potato salad, chips, drinks, and brownies and ice-cream.  We also played "Minute to Win-It" games. Just fun little games to play that were pretty fun. I'll miss all of my co-workers at the Quinney and I'll be sad to leave them.

I also went to the USU end of the year bash, where a band named Anberlin played.  I wasn't near the front of the stage, but I was directly on the side. So essentially I was standing 15-20feet away from the drummer. They were really neat and I'm glad that I went out to hear them play.

This morning was the USU new logo reveal. Nike designed all of the new logos and they look great!  It's exciting that I am here at Utah for the ending of one logo and the beginning of another.

I though this article was really neat.  It's from the USU Statesman and was written bTyler Huskinson on April 28th 2012:

"Nearly four years ago, Nike president and USU alumnus Charlie Densonstarted conversations with USU Athletics Director Scott Barnes about revamping the brand of USU.
After 17 years of what is known as the “U-State” logo, USU Athletics unveiled a new logo in a press conference Saturday, April 28. Nike revamped the USU image — which included an alternate uniform for 12 of the 16 Division I USU teams.
“I think it’s definitely an upgrade from last year,” USU senior running backKerwynn Williams said. “Nike really did their thing and upgraded our jerseys real well. I’m glad that we have choices. Nobody will really know what we’ll come out with next — we just have a lot of different options we can do. I feel like Nike outdid themselves.”
Nike’s partnership with USU is a special opportunity, Barnes said.
“You need to understand that we are absolutely in rarified air,” he said. “Nike isn’t working with Mountain West and WAC schools. They are working with four or five of the elite schools in the country.”
Barnes also announced changes to Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium and the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The stadium will receive new turf along with the new logos and a new jumbotron is currently being installed inside the Spectrum along with new logos.
Those changes are expected to be finished around July. Nike representatives — who were impressed with the USU student section during a home game against Idaho two seasons ago — decided to trademark the USU HURD with t-shirts and a new design."
So check out these awesome logos!

Another Monday Blog Post

Today is supposed to have a high of 86 degrees F.  I am excited to say the least! I don't think people really understand how much I love warm weather, or perhaps if you've read this blog long enough you do understand.

Sunset Sunday Night
I can't believe that this week is dead week (the last real week of classes).  Then next week is finals. Then I graduate.  I think this is happening all too fast!

I'm excited to graduate, but at the same time I am terrified. Why? Because I've been in school since 1st grade and I'm not sure if I'm ready for the real world.  I mean, I think I am prepared for the real world, but not really ready. I don't even know if that makes since.

I'll really miss Utah State, the College of Natural Resources, and my friends. Moving back to Oregon is really exciting and I'm counting down the days until I can ride my horse, however it will be weird to not go to school.  And what about grad school? Is it in my future... or will I settle with a Bachelors? There are so many questions that I don't have the answer to yet. But, I think for right now I am ok with that.

This morning, before work, I was reading an article in the Deseret Newspaper. It said that 1 in 2 new graduates are jobless or underemployed and that the weak labor market means young college graduates don't fully use their skills or knowledge and they are scraping by in lower-wage jobs.  I guess I am really thankful for my families business and the opportunity my dad is giving me to come home and work. I think sometimes people in my field (Recreation Resource Management) struggle to find a full time job that isn't seasonal. A job that really let's them use their skills.  So, I'm glad that I will have the chance to jump with both feet in and really apply my skills. Or at least what skills I think I have.

Ok. Enough about the scary future. I mean... bright future.  I've been working on a fun little post all about "my" Utah State. So keep your eyes open for it in the near future.  And until then enjoy the warm weather!

More Awards Banquet

One day I think you'll be sick of seeing pictures from the awards banquet. But until then...

Awkwardly standing. Holding my award.
Mark & I.  And yes. I'm holding a bag of peanuts.
Long story...

For those that wanted a picture of my award:

It was really hard to get a good picture of this thing!  It's glass, so reflecting light and background becomes a problem when attempting to photograph.  But you get the idea.

Easter Weekend

On Friday I went and saw the Huntsman school of Business 'E Week' BMX bike event.  It was pretty crazy to see what BMX bikers can do! I could never do something that crazy.  Flips and spins and whatnot... wow... but more exciting is the fact that my mom came down from Oregon!

Friday night we went and saw the Hunger Games after downing a delicious Tandoori oven [curry] dinner.  It was my second time and it was my mom's first time seeing the movie.  And what a good movie it is!  I am really excited to see the rest of the movies and see how everything plays out.

By the time we got back to my apartment of Friday I was dead tired. So we hit the hay.

Saturday we woke up and I got to eat amazing cinnamon rolls that my mom made. She is the best!  The best the best!  After breakfast we headed into town to get the tires on my truck changed over. So exciting right?  Well, afterwards we went to Cal Ranch store, then the Cache Valley Mall, then we headed over to Baby Animal Days at the American West Heritage Center.  Baby animals! So freaking cute!  It was lots of fun out there and we even went on a hay ride. It was loads of fun.

Once we finished up to Baby Animal Days it was back to my apartment to get ready to head to the Awards Banquet - the annual College of Natural Resources banquet were scholarship recipients are recognized and senior award are handed out.  I'm proud to say that I am the Outstanding Senior for my department: Environment and Society for 2012.  I'm really excited about this award and I am super honored that I was chosen by the faculty of the department.

Sunday morning mom hid Easter eggs for me! I might be a senior at Utah State... but my college education hasn't helped my Easter egg hunting skills.  I missed some really obvious eggs! It was lots of fun and I'm glad that I finally hunted all the eggs, after some helpful hints.

The rest of Sunday we spent picnicking at Willow Park, going to the Willow Park zoo, then talking a long river walk.  It was so nice to be outside and soak up the sun!

We ate corned beef, red potatoes, and carrots for dinner - then finished off with rich ice-cream sandwiches. After which, we watched the movie War Horse that I got in my Easter basket!  I love War Horse!

I know have enough candy to last me... forever.  So many peeps, M&Ms, and Reece's peanut butter cups!

Let me finish by saying that there are 25 days until I graduate! Which really boils down to 13 school days! holy cow. That's crazy stuff right there. I'm not sure I'm prepared for 'real life' yet.

I don't know what happened... but a month ago (or so) I got a Twitter.  What the heck is twitter? Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets".  And there are over 300 million users! Crazy huh?

So you might be asking why I have a twitter.  Well - I'm not entirely sure to be honest.  At the time it sounded like a good idea. And I think it is. I think social media can hinder or hurt you depending on how you use it.  For me, Twitter is about networking and potentially gaining relationships that can help in the future.

Since joining a month ago I have 22 followers. Not bad, eh?  I know that it's a small number, but me for I'm happy about it.  The Pacific Islands NPS follows me, as does the US Department of Interior, Huntsman School of Business, USU Research Office, USU Aggies, and the College of Natural Resources. It's pretty neat.  Maybe I'll even get more followers someday. Enough about Twitter though.

Chemistry is evil... that's all I will say about that subject.

I've got a lot of homework to do.  So exciting?  I wish I had something more interesting to say, but let's be honest. Who reads this? (Thank you if you're actually reading my blog!)  Come Friday I will have something to blog about. And Saturday. And Sunday.  Each will be a fun day to blog about!

April Fools' Day

Yesterday it was 75°F in Logan.  Everyone was running around in shorts and t-shirts.  Today is April Fools' Day and I just looked out my window.  Its 34°F and snowing.  Awesome prank Mother Nature.  Any chance you'll go back to warm weather soon?
