CarnEvil

On Saturday night I volunteered at the Howl 2011 "CarnEvil."  The Howl, which is held in the Taggart Student Center, is Utah's largest Halloween party!  It's an all-college part with attracts, literally, thousands of students across Utah.  (I believe we had between 6,000 and 6,500 people in attendance on Saturday!)

Yes... I'm standing next to the lead singer Will Pugh :)
(He's in the blue pullover in the center!)
As a student volunteer I was placed on the Hospitality Committee for the Howl.

Basically our crew was in charge of the entertainment for the night. That meant making sure the bands, dance crews, DJs, fortune tellers, snake charmers, and clowns were happy/fed/and rooms secured.

We also got to several 30 minute breaks, in which we actually got to go enjoy the party.

Cartel Live.
Cartel was one of the bands that performed at the Howl.  Cartel is a pretty big pop rock back and we got to chill with them before they went on stage to perform.  It was pretty awesome!

All in all it was a great night!  I got to see a lot of my friends at the Howl, listen to great music, help set up and take down (which lasted until 2:30 am) and enjoyed ten hours of volunteering!

Clown + Snake = Awesome.
Oh... I forgot to post this picture of Patsy's office.  Sydney and I decorated it on Friday for her birthday.  :)  It was pretty fun!  And I hope that she had a fantastic birthday!!

Hogwarts School of Business

What's more awesome than going to Utah State University?  Going to Hogwarts! Yes. I am referring to Harry Potter. In the spirit of Halloween the "Huntsman School of Business" (one of the colleges on campus) has changed into the "Hogwarts School of Business."  And they have gone all out for the event.
Event Poster. Monday is butter beer, chocolate
covered frogs, and Bertie Bott's Jelly beans!
All classrooms are labeled something fantastic. Like Muggle Studies or Potions.  It's awesome!  And there is a giant chess set in the lobby! And tea light candles hanging from the ceiling.  This is just great.

Chamber of Secrets Message!

And if you have no clue what I am talking about then you haven't read Harry Potter. :)  Which is on of the best books of my generation!

Fall Break - Home Sweet Home

Riding WindDancer through the burn area.
Fall Break means coming home to Oregon.  And that means riding my horses, eating prime rib, working in the haunted house, and hanging with my mom and dad.
Cornucopia Mountains
On Thursday I headed up into the hills.  With my amazing horse WindDancer.  The colors were absolutely beautiful in the mountains.

I came home to a great dinner cooked by mom then went to bed.  It was a long day for sure. But so worth it!  On my ride I saw six golden eagles, a massive herd of elk, some fantastic looking bucks, and a beautiful bull.  It was an amazing day.

Cowgirl through and through.
Friday I went riding in the morning then headed into town with mom.  We stopped by Grandma's apartment which was great.  It was so good to see her!  Then went to work in the Haunted House.  I was a creepy ballroom dancer turned vampire.  It was great!  I just love making people scream. Haha.
Let the feast begin!
Then today I rode some more, messed around at home, picked some apples, and relaxed watching movies. Oh. And don't forget the amazing prime rib mom cooked for dinner.  I just love living on a ranch with cows!  Meat is great!

NR Week: Monday

I would say the Monday went off pretty smoothly.  The weather cooperated.  People showed up to events. And I had lots of fun!

We started out the day with the Logger's Breakfast sponsored by the Forestry Club.  Delicious pancakes and eggs!  The only downfall was that the eggs kind of created a mess so it was a little difficult to clean up.  But other than that it was great!

Then we had a shoot out with (former) USU basketball star Jared Quayle. We even got our CNR mascot, Paul Bunyan, to try his hand at basketball. Pretty good for a logger if you ask me!

Then we had a Reduce, Reuse, Rock Concert with some great bands.  Love the bluegrass band, The Dry Lake Band, that came and played. They were awesome!

All in all I would call day one of NR week a success!

Corn Mazes and Service

The weather here in Logan has been absolutely wonderful this last week!  The leaves are changing colors in the canyon, the weather is warm, it's a perfect fall setting.  So I made this weekend count!

On Friday Jordan and I got Panda Express then went to the Little Bear Bottoms corn maze.  Let's just say that the haunted river trail wasn't very haunted, and the corn maze was just confusing.  But it was still lots of fun!  After spending some time there we decided to head over to the Green Canyon Corn Maze.  Great decision!  I had so much fun and it was awesome to wander around and get scared in the corn.  Plus the corn was really tall! So much fun!

On Saturday morning I went with Jen to do the Natural Resources week Service Project up Logan Canyon.  We walked around and collected garbage.  You wouldn't believe how much we found! Not to mention what we found... socks, a shoe, lots of glass, coffee cups, doughnut boxes, and even a used diaper... eww!
Katlin & Caitlin Pickin' up Trash!
But it felt good to do some service with my fellow NR students.  Plus Jen and I took a lot of pictures!  We got some great pictures showing the color of the leave and even found a small water fall.

Crawling Towards the Waterfall.  I was going to get a
good picture!
After we finished the service project we got served Old Grist Mill sandwiches. So good!  Plus chips and a chocolate chip cookie!  It made picking up trash that much better!

And I did get a great
side view of the small water fall...

One million dollars baby!

 Pretty colors!
Jen and I decided that we shouldn't let the beautiful day go to waste so we took a drive up Logan Canyon to the Tony Grove Lake.  And we found snow!  The trails were a little muddy but it was still heaps of fun!
Lookin' Down on Logan Canyon
All in all, I would say that the weekend turned our amazingly.  It was heaps of fun and I love weekends like this! Next week is Natural Resources week.  Basically NR week is a week that Utah State University dedicates it's attention to the College of Natural Resources.  There are a large variety of events happening during the week and they are all run by the CNR Student Council (which I am).  Hopefully we pull it off!  I'm excited so be on the lookout for pictures.

Boo at the Zoo

On Saturday the Student Organization for Society and Natural Resources [SOSNR] held it's first event of the year... Boo at the Zoo.  The event is actually organized by the Willow Park Zoo but we came and volunteered to help out.

And it was actually lots of fun!

Then Jen and I went on a drive and saw this beautiful sunset. On top of that I caught the last two quarters of the football game. And we won. Actually we cremated Wyoming... 63 to 19!  Heck yes!

October Snow

So. What's with this weather? I mean fall is usually beautiful with changing leaves. I imagine it with cool nights and warm days.  And pumpkins. And hot chocolate. And curling up on the couch reading a good book. And having fun with great friends.

But this weather is not cooperating. Snow? Really. No. I object. Not yet... please not yet.  Let's hold off until the end of October.  Although perhaps this is just a cold front. Or I am just complaining that it's cold and Australia was never cold.

But I'm looking forward to an October filled with pumpkins, friends, and good food.  Maybe the USU football team might even win!  Or we could lose it again in the fourth quarter...

And yes. I took this picture today! October 6th, 2011.  Looking at Logan Canyon from campus.

Hiking the Crimson

Hiking the Crimson Trail this weekend was so much fun!  It was a long way up... and steep - but well worth the view!  Even more so when I ran into my friends Jared and Brice.

The trail runs along a cliff with lots of great places for photos! And the canyon has just started changing colors... so it is beautiful!

Star Gazing

Last night after watching Utah State lose to BYU (so sad) I went to the Aggie Blue Sky Night at the Observatory on campus.  I've never been on top of the engineering research building so that was cool and all of campus was glowing. So neat!

The observatory is so amazing!  And the telescope is huge! Who knew our campus had something like that?!

The inside of the observatory was using red lights so that's why the photos are red.  I just love looking at the stars and it was really cool to see them up close and personal.  It was a beautiful night!
