Tennessee Aquarium

I'm not sure if anyone reads my blog.  It has turned into more of an "online journal."  But I think I'm okay with that.  For the past week I have been in Alabama with my sister. I celebrated my 21st birthday on Monday and am "officially" an adult.  Haha. In other words, I'm legal.  And responsible.  (I shall post pictures/video of my birthday once I upload them from my camera!)

Yesterday, I went to the Tennessee Aquarium with my sister.  It was so awesome! Heidi and I got to pet a sturgeon; which is weird because they don't feel like normal fish. (They are so smooth!) And they look like they came from the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  We also got to feed the sting rays.  Yes. Feed them.  They have such weird mouths and little teeth.  Since apparently nobody goes to the Aquarium on a Thursday in the middle of January we got to feed to string rays a ton of shrimp.  So cool!  (Except we were so busy playing with they that neither of us remember so to video or pictures.  But believe me. String rays are cool!)

Currently Heidi is teaching class while I sit in her office watching the newest episode of Bones.  =)  I'll be at school a while longer so I won't be able to upload pictures until later tonight/tomorrow/when-I-get-to-it. But you (whoever you are...) will have to look at them all!

Airport - Denver

I'm sittin' in an airport. Waitin' for my plane to come. So I can go to Alabama.

Do you know I love people watching?  It's so entertaining.  Like the guy outside with the orange sticks- you know, the one who directs the plane where to park... well he is throwing his sticks high into the air then attempting to catch 'em.  I think he must be bored. He's talented at twirling them too.  Now here comes the plane. Looks like he has work to do.

Across from me there is a sweet looking old lady.  She is reading a book called "Brides of Arkansas." I like her earrings and matching necklace.  And the red purse.  Theres a couple sitting against the window and another couple besides them.  The lady next to me is either talking to herself or her iPod. I'm not sure which.  And there is a little kid runny around with a cute lamb stuffed animal.

Brr. Someone opened a door because there's a draft.  Looks like the plane is about to unload.  (Hopefully no one is reading this over my shoulder. They might think I'm a total creeper.)

I love my mom!

Today she drove me to the Best Western in Boise so that I can board my plane early in the morning. But before we checked in we went to the mall.  In Forever21 we found some cute jewelry that I can wear on my birthday and and had fun looking at all the clothes.  Mom also bought me a suitcase to match my other one.  =)  Then we bought her shoes at Macy's and went to Williams-Sonoma to buy a cutting board.

At the hotel I "swam" in the pool and sat in the hot tub. Except I lost my hairband in the deep end and it was an adventure to get it.  Now for some [early] birthday cake then to the airport in the morning!  By tomorrow night I should be in Alabama at Heidis!

My teeth are good looking. But I had to get a cavity filled and now my jaw hurts.  But I guess it's better than having the cavity get bigger.  Why do I even have a cavity in the first place?!  I brush three times a day.  Floss. AND mouthwash. You would think that would be enough.

So enough about dentists. I found this interesting AP article about students finding limits to their college education.  (See more here:

"You are told that to make it in life, you must go to college. You work hard to get there. You or your parents drain savings or take out huge loans to pay for it all.

And you end up learning ... not much.
A study of more than 2,300 undergraduates found 45 percent of students show no significant improvement in the key measures of critical thinking, complex reasoning and writing by the end of their sophomore years."
I can honestly say that by the end of my sophomore year I don't think I further developed my critical thinking or complex reasoning.  I was a better researcher and writer and I also developed my own style of writing.  (Which I use in this blog.  Short sentences. Choppy. Straight outta the brain. No filtering.)
I believe that is college is what you make it.  I don't think I used to think this, but I do now. This year I began to get involved, work harder, and take pride in my scholastic work.  I wrote the best research papers in my class, learned more when I applied myself outside the classroom, and my social life also expanded.
Speaking of social things - Jill is an awesome friend! And she sent me an awesome bracelet from Aruba. And she is cool. So is Alexis.  Who I can make awesome faces at. And Josie. Who I can always count on as a hot chocolate/food partner in crime.
Life is good! (Minus the fact my jaw hurts.)

Dear Bed...

Dear Bed...

I love you!  Oh yes.  You heard me right.  I love my new bed!  And all nine pillows that accompany it.

For the first time in my life, I have a real bed to sleep on!  Not that I didn't love my single bed on a piece of plywood, but I've upgraded! Queen size amazingness.  Soft. Comfortable. Pure heaven.

Oh I can't wait for bedtime tonight!

I love to cook.  I the aroma in the kitchen after you are done.  I love when spices meld together to create a whole new flavor.  I love watching something come from nothing.  I love the art of french cooking and trying new things.  It's always fascinated me how something like duck can actually be good.  (But don't ask me to eat seafood. It's not happening.)   My mom, on the other hand, does not like cooking.  Which I can understand.  But to me, cooking is like art.  I can't paint you a picture, but I can make a mean batch of beef bourguignon (thank you Julia Child).  And my favorite to make is perhaps a stuffed Argentine flank steak with spicy red potatoes.  So good!  Oh and I love sweet pulled pork!  And cakes! And chocolates!

In relation to cooking; I was attempting to clean my room more today. But it didn't happen.  Why?  I couldn't find a spot to put my kitchen aid mixer, pots, pans, knives, and numerous gadgets. Maybe that's why it is so hard to move. Because I have too many kitchen related items.  (Although I wouldn't trade 'em - even if it made moving easier!)

Tomorrow I'm off to Washington.  Next week Alabama. Then Oregon... then Australia!  Talk about travel!  Good thing I love adventures!

High Tide

I thought about several things today.  I thought about how much I love horses. I thought about how much I love having friends to talk to.  And I thought about how odd my blog posts are.  You know, with the big then little font.  Someone told me it was weird, and perhaps it is, but I think I like it that way.  It's unique.  And I can understand that I am going overkill with the whole odd-paragraph-spacing thing.  So perhaps I will try to keep it more "normal."  (Whatever that is.)  So what do you think?

Now on to latest and breaking news.  No, I'm not referring to the shooting in Arizona, but rather the flooding in Brisbane, Australia. If you don't already know this I am going to Australia soon.  And Brisbane is the city I am supposed to fly into. But with the waters are high as they are over 20,000 people are in danger and 22 have already been killed in Queensland.

According to an AP article, "This incident is not a tourist event — this is a deeply serious natural disaster," Queensland state Premier Anna Bligh said. "Stay in your homes. Do not travel unless it is absolutely necessary."  I highly suggest you read the article, which can be found at:

And I say this not just because I am going to Australia but because I believe people should take an interest in world events. Of course, I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried.  Because I am.  I hope this doesn't effect my schooling or plane flight.  But until then I will keep my eye on the news and be watching for more updates.  If you want to read more on the flooding check our this article from the Yahoo! News:

I love living on a ranch.

Where sometimes you get so much snow you can't roll the garbage cans down the driveway. And this causes a problem when your garbage only gets picked up every two weeks.

Our solution?

Put the garbage cans on the backhoe and drive it down the snowy road.  Good idea mom.  Thus why I love living on a ranch. Because we can do things like that.

New Room. New color.

Here are the pictures of my new room color.  Say goodbye to green/white walls....

And hello to a beautiful blue with white trim.

So go along with the blue room my mom is going to bye me a queen size bed for my birthday. We get to pick it up next week but I went ahead and bought a cool looking bedframe for it. (Took this picture in the store.)

And then there is the mess.  Not just any mess, but piles and pile of stuff.  Things I need to find a home for, box up, and put in my room. I am so not looking forward to competing this part of my room.  But it will happen. Hopefully by tonight or tomorrow.

New Years Resolution #1

So perhaps it's not actually my numero uno New Years Resolution but it's the one I started on first. And that is redoing my room.  New paint.  Cleaning out old things.  Reorganizing. New feel.

But while this has been a great endeavor it has turned into a lot of work... and by a lot of work I really mean a lot of work.  I can't even walk from my closet to my bed. It's rather sad. So instead of cleaning I've given up and thus why I sit here writing on my blog.  But I love the new color of blue!  So the tree parts of my room are white, green, and blue.  It's pretty.

I'll post pictures once I find my camera cord... which is buried somewhere.  In a pile.  Of STUFF.

Expect the next post to show pictures of stuff, paint, and the new version of my room.  (It's much more "adult" than the previous horse over-killed room.)
